Tehran, Iran, Feb. 10

By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

The Iranian government has allowed the import of livestock via its eastern borders, Tasnim news agency reported February 10.

The imported livestock should meet health requirement such as quarantine, but no limit has been set as for the number of livestock allowed to be imported.

Anti-government news outlets claim the measure is to adjust the domestic market a couple of months ahead of presidential elections, to be held on May 19.

Over the past six months red meat gained value in Iran. Most farmers, however, consider this to be because of the coming of the cold season.
