Iran to issue 14 tenders on oil and gas exploration

Iran plans to issue tenders on exploration operations in 14 blocks based on newly designed oil and gas agreements, called Iran Petroleum Contract, or IPC, ISNA reported Feb. 17.

The tenders would be issued in early summer, Saleh Hendi the head of exploration at National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said.

According to him, with regarding the priority of oil and gas production projects, Iran firstly plans to issue tenders on development of 49 fields soon, then it would issue tenders on exploration activities.

Hendi said that foreigners can get involved in the projects jointly with local companies.

Iran plans to invest $100 billion in 49 upstream oil and gas sector by 2021, of which 80 percent is expected to be attracted from foreign companies. The Islamic Republic plans to increase the oil and gas condensate production to about 5.1 mb/d and gas output to about 1.25 bcm/d in five years.

Hendi didn’t mention the name of blocks, offered to be explored, but according to the document of the generalities of IPC, seen by Trend in November 2015, Iran had planned to introduce 18 exploration blocks based on IPC:

Iran has recently published the list of 29 foreign companies qualified to participate in development projects of 49 oil and gas fields IPC.
