Iran, Kazakhstan railways sign MoU to boost cargo transport

The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IRIR) and ‎ Kazakhstan railways company (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy-KTZ) ‎sigend a memorandum of understanding to increase the amount of cargo transportation.

The deal was signed on the sidelines of a meeting between Vice-President on development of KTZ Arman Sultanov and Ebrahim Mohammadi, deputy head of the IRIR, the Iranian road and urban development ministry reported Feb. 21.

Under the signed document, the two parties agreed to implement certain discounts for container trains in international railway line between Uzen - Bolashak - Serhetyaka - Akyayla-Incheburun /Sarakhs for the period from March 1 until December 31, 2017, in order to attract further
cargo flow.

The volume of goods transport between Iran and Kazakhstan increased by 16 percent in 2016 to 2.2 million tons.

The two parties are hopeful that the figure would reach 3.3 million tons in 2017.
