Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 27

By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iran has inaugurated a new platform of the South Pars gas field's Phase 20, which has the capacity of extraction of about one billion cubic feet of gas, Alireza Ebadi, the managing director of South Pars phases 20 and 21, said.

The flare of the platform of the South Pars gas field phase 20 was lit last night, Ebadi said Feb. 27, SHANA news agency reported.

The start-up operation of the platform started after the wells of the platform became operational, Ebadi said, adding that the extracted gas will be sent to onshore refinery of the phase in the coming days.

At the moment operations are underway for finalizing installation of the 32-inch pipeline which will connect platform to the onshore refinery, he said.

The phases 20 and 21 are a joint project aimed at producing 57 million cubic meters (mcm) per day of gas, 77,000 barrels per day of gas condensate. Together, the two phases will also yield 400 tons of sulfur, 1.05 million tons of liquefied gas, and one million tons of ethane per year.

Iran has increased gas production from South Pars to above 500 mcm/d and it would reach 520-530 mcm/d by the end of current fiscal year (March 21).

The field with 14 trillion cubic meters of reserves on the Iranian side is jointly owned with Qatar.

Iran divided its side of the field to 24 phases and its final output capacity is expected to be above 800 mcm/d after launching all phases.

Qatar has produced above 2.4 trillion cubic meters of cumulative gas from the field, while Iran’s output has reached 1 trillion cubic meters until 2016.
