Iran is exploring some 250,000 km2 of land for mines, said Mehdi Karbasian, head of the IMIDRO (Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization).

Accordingly, Iran has prepared a thorough list of mining projects and is going to put them up for tender, Karbasian said, IRIB news agency reported March 18.

“We are busy identifying and removing banking bottlenecks to help investors carry out the projects,” he said, adding that Iran also welcomes foreign investors to its mining sector.

Karbasian had elsewhere pointed out that some 70 mining projects were implemented in the country in 2014. Some $26 billion will be invested in mining projects by 2020, he had added.

Iran ranks among 10 top countries in the world in terms of mineral resources with mineral reserves amounting to 60 billion tons.
