Over 53% of Iranians have access to Internet

More than 15.051 million households had access to Internet in the Islamic Republic over the last Iranian fiscal year (ended March 20), according to the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI).

About 62.2 percent of Iranian households had access to Internet by March 20, which indicates a rise by 12 percent compared to the preceding year, Mehr news agency reported Apr. 23.

Over 53.2 percent of Iranians or 38.996 million people had access to Internet in the mentioned period. The figure was 45.3 percent by March 2016.

The report also said that 14.854 million Iranian households or 61.39 percent have a computer (desktop and laptop) at home.

The figure indicates an increase by 7 percent year-on-year.

The Iranian Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry earlier said that over 21.35 million of Iran's 80 million population were using mobile phones to have access to Internet by June 21, 2015 compared to 16 million by March 20, 2016.

According to the statistics, the number of ADSL users in Iran reached 9 million by June 21, 2016.
