Tehran, Iran, April 24

By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

Iran has started door-to-door laying of fiber optic cable, IRIB news agency reported April 24.

The project had been under study and preparation for several years, as a major step toward increasing ICT services in the country.

The project started simultaneously in the cities of Tehran and Isfahan, as well as in Razavi Khorasan, Fars, Khuzestan, Alborz, and Kermanshah provinces.

Fiber optic cable is a cable containing one or more optical fibers that are used to carry light, a method used instead of transmitting electrical currents in modern ICT industry. Modern fiber cables can contain up to a thousand fibers in a single cable, with potential bandwidth in the terabytes per second.
