Iran exports $5.7B worth of agricultural products

The Islamic Republic exported 5.8 million tons of agricultural products during the last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2017), Iran’s deputy agriculture minister, Abdolmehdi Bakhshandeh, said.

The figure indicates a rise by 21.77 percent compared to the same period of preceding year, Bakhshandeh said, Mehr news agency reported May 3.

He further said that the value of exported agricultural products accounted for $5.686 billion, 3.61 percent more year-on-year.

Iranian agricultural exports shared 4.48 percent of the country’s total non-oil exports in terms of volume and 12.97 percent in terms of value respectively, Bakhshandeh said.

Agronomic products topped the list of exports with 63.48 percent share in terms of volume, followed by horticultural products (21.05 percent) and livestock (13.43 percent), he added.

In terms of value, horticultural products ranked first with 47.45 percent share, followed by agronomic products (23.3 percent) and livestock (22.12 percent), the official said.

He added that pistachio, tomato paste and saffron topped the list of Iran’s agricultural exports in terms of value.

Meanwhile according to the latest statistics released by Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, the country exported $3.922 billion worth of agricultural products (1.7 percent less year-on-year) in last fiscal year.
