Iran Energy Exchange trades over 7 Mwh of electricity

Iran’s Energy Exchange saw trading 7,248 megawatts hour (Mwh) of electricity valued at $70,369 (2.283 billion rials) on May 3.

This amount of electricity was traded through 302 contracts, Eghtesadonline news website reported. While the country over the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20) increased its power generation capacity by 2.5 gigawatts (GW), the capacity is projected to grow by 4.5 GW over the current year to post a nominal capacity of 81.1 GW.

The country needs to attract $50 billion in investment in its electricity sector, including $35 billion for power production and $15 billion for transmission projects.
