Iran and Russia plan to mutually ease customs regulations to improve bilateral trade, according to Astrakhan Region’s Industry, Transport, and Environmental Resources Minister Radik Kharisov.

Speaking in a meeting with Hadi Tizhush Taban, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture of Iran’s Gilan Province, the Russian official said the easing of customs regulations will kick off in January 2018, Iran’s Marine News Agency reported May 23.

He said that the move will particularly ease the export of Iran’s agricultural products to Russia.

Trade turnover between Iran and Russia jumped by 80 percent in 2016. According to Iranian sources, in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (since March 20), Iran exported worth $86.5 million goods to Russia.

Russia has promised to leave Iran a so-called “green corridor” by which Russia is going to give tariff discounts to goods imported from Iran.
