Iran’s insurance industry says medical malpractice cases grow

The Central Insurance of Iran, the industry's regulator, has announced a 27.2 percent surge in number of reviewed medical malpractice cases in the country over the last fiscal year (starting March 20).

According to the Central Insurance of Iran, the industry has reviewed 7,214 medical error cases over the last year, 27.2 percent up than the previous year, Ibena (Iranian banks and economy news agency) reported. Suspect professional negligence cases sparked serious criticism against the country’s health system over the last year.

The insurance industry in the country grew by 22 percent over the last fiscal year with insurance penetration rate improving by 0.4 percent to reach 2.1 percent.
