Iran develops northwestern railway by 45%

The construction of a railroad connecting Ardabil city to Miyaneh in northwestern Iran has been completed by 45.5 percent, an official said.

Kheirollah Khademi, an official with Iranian transportation ministry, has said that the substructure of the railway has been completed by 68 percent, IRNA news agency reported.

He added that the construction of facilities and buildings has been completed by 32 percent. The ministry in order to complete the 175 kilometer long railroad needs to build 65 tunnels and 31 bridges.

The railway is expected to carry 1.5 million passengers and four million tons of cargo per year.
