French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius was flying back to Switzerland to join other negotiators on Iran's nuclear program, Reuters reported.

The German news agency DPA reported Tuesday that German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his French counterpart won't attend the joint Franco-German government talks in Berlin and remain in Lausanne for the negotiations with Iran.

However, the French foreign minister left here overnight Wednesday and said he would be back when deemed necessary.

The negotiations are in a critical and also difficult phase and therefore their attendance is necessary, according the German side.

With the negotiations between Iran and P5+1 going through a very difficult stage, the return to Switzerland of the French foreign minister can be taken as a good sign that a breakthrough might have happened.
