Rouhani: Iran committed to its obligations in nuclear deal

By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

The political nuclear deal achieved on April 2 was a historic day, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said during a live speech broadcasted by Iran's State TV, IRINN April 3.

Rouhani said the Iranian government has been obliged to have both uranium enrichment and economic growth.

"Iran's new government reached an interim nuclear deal with P5+1 in November 2013 and the second step was the political deal, achieved on April 2 and the next step would be the comprehensive nuclear deal by June 30, finally we will implement the comprehensive nuclear deal in weeks," he said.

Rouhani said that during the first day of implementation, all sanctions imposed by the West on Iran's banking system, economy and oil export would be suspended and six UN sanctions would be halted.

Iranian president also said Iran is exactly committed to the all of its obligations in the nuclear deal and while the P5+1 carry out their commitments, Iran will never abandon its obligations.

Iran and world powers reached a framework agreement on April 2 on implementation of some restrictions over Iran's nuclear program for at least a decade.

Iran will have only one uranium enrichment plant, Natanz, also Iran will change the Fordo uranium enrichment plant to a nuclear research site, according to a joint announcement.

Iran will also change the design of Arak heavy water plant to make less plutonium and the International Atomic Energy Agency will have more access to Iran's nuclear facilities.

In exchange, the EU and the US will halt their sanctions on Iran after reaching a comprehensive nuclear deal (expected to be achieved by June 30).

'According to the framework we reached last night, the P5+1 has granted Iran (the right) to enrich (uranium) in its own soil, that is, formerly they would say that enrichment in Iran would be a threat to the region and the world," said the president. "Today, all agreed that enrichment in Iran will be a threat to nobody,' the president stated."

Rouhani asserted that the entire nuclear program serves merely Iran's development and that Tehran will not use the nuclear technology against any country.

Rouhani further maintained that under the framework, the Arak nuclear facilities will operate with higher technological standards than previously designed.

'In Fordow, one thousand centrifuges will be working where other nuclear and physical activities will be carried out,' he said.

He stated that while some parties believe Iran must fight the world and some other say it must surrender to the powers, there is a third way, which is to cooperate with the world.
