Iran’s nuclear talks might extend for few days

Tehran, Iran, June 28

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

The sources close to the Iranian nuclear negotiation team have said that the country's nuclear negotiations may be extended for some days beyond the June 30 deadline.

However, Western media outlets have said that there cannot be an extension beyond July 9, because then the process of reviewing a final deal by the US Congress will take 60 days, which is not favored by Iran or six world powers.

The diplomats from Iran and the group P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) met for the third time in the course of their presence in Vienna which began two days ago, ISNA news agency reported June 28.

Iranian and US diplomats as well as the representatives from the EU met earlier to discuss the nuclear deal.

Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif and his US counterpart John Kerry arrived in Vienna June 27 and met in two sessions in the morning and afternoon.

The same day French FM Laurent Fabius also joined the talks and met with his Iranian and US counterparts in separate sessions.

Iranian sources say that upon arrival in Vienna, Fabius made remarks that differs from the previously agreed Lausanne statement.

Zarif is to travel to Tehran late June 28 to discuss the issues with Iranian authorities. He will go back to Vienna one day later.

The six powers are trying to limit Iran's nuclear program, claiming the country is suspicious of following non-peaceful plans. Tehran denies that and stresses it has a right to peaceful nuclear program.

Iran also criticizes the West for imposing sanctions on its economy.
