By Mehdi Sepahvand -- Trend:

After international sanctions on Iran's economy are lifted, drugs and medical equipment will become 10 percent cheaper than now, head of Iran's Food and Drug Organization Rasoul Dinarvand said, IRNA news agency reported on August 1.

The quality of the drugs and equipment found in the country's market will also grow, he said.

He went on to add that although the Iranian government managed to answer the public demand during the time sanctions were in place, people are going to have easier access to drugs when sanctions are lifted.

"Under sanctions we have to use unconventional ways and currency exchange for transferring the money needed for drug imports, which add from 2 to 10 percent to the end price," Dinarvand mentioned.

Iran imports $1 billion worth of drugs a year. The majority of the imported drugs include single drugs as well as those needed by patients with cancer or rare diseases.

The Iranian drugs market is worth 80,000 billion rials (about $2.7 billion).
