Iran exported 70 tons of heavy water in 7 months, spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrooz Kamalvandi said.

Citing the exported amount as a good sign of progress in nuclear activities and a good source of income, Kamalvandi predicted Iran will manage to export 20 tons of heavy water per year, Alalam channel reported December 26.

“Now the market is kind of saturated. However, we think we can find customers for the annual 20 tons we are going to produce,” he said.

“I think we will manage to make deals other than we had with the US and Russia. The new customers are mainly European.”

Iran is taking steps to ship out heavy water produced in excess of a soft limit set under its nuclear deal with major powers.

Latest official reports say the purity of the heavy water at Iran’s Arak nuclear reactor, aka IR-40, stands at 95.99 percent.
