Presidential candidate Saeed Jalili has called for a strong voter turnout in the presidential and city council elections.

The secretary of the Supreme National Security Council added that a high turnout will guarantee national security and will help the country defend its rights in the international arena.

He made the remarks during his visit Loshan town in northern Gilan Province, the Fars News Agency reported.

Jalili said that he signed up for the June 14 vote to show his commitment to the discourse of the Islamic Revolution.

Addressing a crowd of his supporters, Jalili said that those who have distanced themselves from the leader of the Islamic Revolution have no place in his campaign.

Iran will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013.

The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional laws.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
