Iran and Tajikistan have plans to increase cooperation in the field of fighting drug trafficking, IRNA reported.

Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli is to meet his Tajik counterpart as well as National Drug Enforcement Agency officials on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and sign a MoU in the field of fight against drug trafficking.

President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to visit Tajikistan to attend the SCO summit which will take place in Dushanbe on September 12 and 13.

During the visit, he will inaugurate a railroad project and a hydroelectric power plant constructed by Iranian investors in Tajikistan.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The Organization currently has six full members. Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, and India are observer states and SCO's dialogue partners include Belarus, Sri Lanka, and Turkey.
