Tehran, Iran, Sept. 21

Iran's Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani said that the United States' so-called fight against terrorism is absurd.

"It's ridiculous that Washington with its appalling record in supporting terrorism is now trying to spearhead a war on ISIL terrorists in Iraq and Syria," he said, Iran's ISNA News Agency reported on September 21.

"Washington's imperialism has always been laced with terrorism," he added, reffering to US activities in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, and Syria.

"Iran will not cooperate with the US-led coalition against ISIL because Tehran doesn't trust Washington," Larijani noted.

The US president Barack Obama last week announced his new strategy for fighting ISIL militants in Syria and Iraq.

The new strategy includes arming anti-Damascus group who also fight with the ISIL, as well as carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq.

The US is forming a coalition consisted of up to 40 countries to fight ISIL.

Iranian officials have repeatedly cast doubt on the sincerity of the US-led coalition.
