Commander of Iranian Army's Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said that the army is ready to counter any possible threat from the terrorist organization calling itself the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIL or ISIS) on the country's border lines.
"If the ISIL terrorists come near our borders, we will target them at the hearth of the Iraqi soil," he said, Iran's ISNA news agency reported on September 27.
Brigadier General Pourdastan added that the ground force has already deployed its units in western regions in order to strengthen border security.
Iranian officials said that the country is currently assisting Iraqi forces in their fight against the ISIL militants.
