By Milad Fashtami - Trend:

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes in Syria.

"The airstrikes show Israel's cooperation with terrorist groups to destroy Syria and kill the innocent people there," she said, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on Dec. 8.

She further called on the United Nations to stop such violations.

"The Zionist regime is trying to exploit the critical situation in Syria," Afkham said.

It was reported earlier that Israeli aircraft bombed an area near Damascus International Airport and a smaller airport in the town of Dimas on Dec. 7.

Syria has sent letters to the United Nations, saying Israeli air raids on its soil prove Tel Aviv's direct support for terrorists.

The Syrian foreign ministry has called on the world body to impose sanctions on Israel.

It also demanded that all measures stipulated by the UN charter be implemented to prevent such aggression.
