Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is capable of sinking the US aircraft carriers, the naval commander of the IRGC, Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said, the country's Fars news agency reported Jan. 18.

Fadavi made the remarks in a meeting with Commandant of Oman's National Defense College (NDC) Major General Salim bin Musallam Qatan in Tehran.

Fadavi said that the IRGC's military principles are based on confronting with the US threats, standing against them and being the battle field's winner.

He said the US spends $13 billion for building an aircraft carrier, meanwhile the IRGC speedboats are able to sink it, according to the US military officials.

He also said that the IRGC forced the US to change its naval strategy in the Gulf.

It is not the first time that the IRGC officials make similar statements on this issue.

Fadavi said last May that the US warships are easy target, claiming his forces could sink a US aircraft carrier in less than a minute.

"Conducting trainings, exercises and drills to get prepared for operational goals is always on our agenda and Americans and the whole world know that one of the operational goals of the IRGC Navy is the destruction of the US naval force," Fadavi said.

Fadavi said his forces had been conducting routine drills on how to sink US vessels, notably in the Gulf.
