Belarus and Iran do not fully exploit the potential of trade and economic relations, said the Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Mackay during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, BelTA news agency reported.

"In 2014, the trade between our countries has increased significantly, but the potential of trade and economic relations is not fully exploited, and we spoke about it," said Vladimir Mackay. "Our goal is to identify measures that will give greater momentum to our bilateral cooperation and make sure that it meets the level of political engagement."

In turn, the Iranian Foreign Minister expressed confidence that the visit of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to Iran will become a good incentive for bilateral cooperation. In addition, in the near future it is planned to hold a meeting of the intergovernmental commission, at which the list of issues of trade and economic relations will be considered, he said.

"There are spheres in the industrial sector in which we could complement each other," said Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Iran's foreign minister on February 16-18 is on an official visit in Belarus. The program of the visit includes meetings of the diplomat with Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov, the chairman of the National Assembly Mikhail Myasnikovich. It is also planned that Mohammad Javad Zarif will attend the opening of the new building of the Iranian Embassy in Belarus.
