The ongoing drill of Iran 's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is a "deterrence message to the Islamic Republic's trans-regional enemies," Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the IRGC said.

The drill is held to warn Iran 's enemies about their possible aims of violating Iran 's security sphere, Jafari said, Iran 's state IRINN TV reported Feb. 25.

The IRGC started a massive naval drill on Feb. 25 in the Gulf and the strategic Strait of Hormuz through which one fifth of the world oil supply passes.

The IRGC Naval Force successfully targeted a model US aircraft carrier in the drill.

The real-size model aircraft carrier which was built by the IRGC Naval Force, was struck by hundreds of rockets and tens of missiles, including a number of cruise and two ballistic missiles, and was completely destroyed.

Jafari said that the drill is not directed towards the Gulf States, adding Iran 's problem is with trans-regional powers. He also argued that the regional countries would benefit Iran 's military drill.

The Islamic Republic's military might is for securing the security and peace of the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf States, the IRGC commander said.

Prophet Mohammad-9 drills started in the presence of the Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani as well as commander of the IRGC Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari and high-ranking military commanders.

Last month, IRGC's naval commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said that the IRGC's military principles are based on confronting the US threats, standing against them and being the winner on the battlefield.
