Iranian Parliament speaker Ali Larijani met his Qatari counterpart Muhammad Bin Mubarak Bin Saleh al-Khalifi in Doha.

"Iran and Qatar share an important role in the region's sustainable security," said Larijani.

"There are many crises in the region and we must work together to establish peace," he added, ICANA news agency reported March 11.

Larijani, who was leading a high-ranking delegation to Doha, called for closer bonds between the two parliaments.

I hope that this trip will boost mutual cooperation in economic, parliamentary, and other sections, the Iranian lawmaker asserted, citing favorable regards of the Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

He also invited his Qatari counterpart to Tehran.

Al-Khalifi, for his part, expressed happiness over meeting the Iranian delegation and reiterated the emir's call for establishing stronger ties with Iran.

"We need cooperation to preserve regional peace; therefore I hope that Iran-Qatar relations will continue and we would witness booming cooperation in all spheres, because that would benefit all," he stated.

In late October, Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh and the Qatari Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmad bin Jassim bin Mohammad al-Thani met in Tehran to discuss closer bonds.

In another development around the same time, Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayebnia in a meeting with his Qatari counterpart stressed on increase in the level of economic relations and announced the will of the officials of both sides for the formation of joint investment committee.
