Iran says people in region to stand against Saudi Arabia

By Khalid Kazimov - Trend:

The people of Yemen and the regional countries will stand against Saudi Arabia, Iranian MP and member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Esmail Kowsari told Trend March 27.

Kowsari's remarks came after Saudi Arabia started launching airstrikes on Yemen following recent political developments in Sana'a.

"Saudi Arabia's attack, accompanied by a number of Arab countries, on Yemen was a mistake, and the consequences will afflict the country," Kowsari stated.

He accused Riyadh of killing Yemeni people and said that Saudi Arabia will have to admit defeat once the people of Yemen and other regional countries rise against the House of Saud.

The Iranian MP further said that the Arab countries' attack on Yemen was agitated by the US and Israel.

The White House said previously that the US President Barack Obama authorized a logistical and intelligence support for a Saudi-led military operation in Yemen to beat back the Houthi (local Shia group) militia forces.

Iran's Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen said March 26 that "silence of international organizations and bodies regarding the aggression against independent states, including Syria, shall result in deepening of the crisis in the region".

The ambassador reiterated that Iran closely follows developments in Yemen and further said that the internal Yemeni conflict should be settled peacefully through negotiations without intervention of foreign countries.

Pak Ayeen said that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a peace loving country, shall use it good offices to harness the crisis and prevent violation of international laws and regulations in Yemen.

"Since the beginning of the crisis in Yemen, Iran called for talks among Yemeni groups and declared that military intervention of third countries will further deepen the crisis," he said.
