Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr.11

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: A group of people gathered in front of the Saudi Arabia's embassy in Tehran in protest over the alleged sexual harassment of two teenage Iranian pilgrims by two officials in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah airport.

The protesters called on Saudi Arabia's government to deal seriously with those who committed such a 'disgraceful' act, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on April 11.

They also called Iranian officials to close down the Saudi Arabia's embassy in Tehran.

However, the Interior Ministry of Iran said that it has not issued and will not issue any permit for holding such gatherings.

The Saudi airport officials have reportedly separated the two Iranians from other members of their group, who were returning from their pilgrimage, and sexually assaulted them.

On April 7, Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned the Saudi chargé d'affaires in Tehran in regard to the issue.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi slammed the airport officials' actions as a "heinous and inhumane crime."

He added following the summoning, Saudi officials arrested the two suspects after carrying out investigations, and promised that appropriate measures would be adopted.
