Iran should prepare itself for proxy war, the Iranian Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said.

"Today, threats have changed their face to proxy war," Purdastan said, adding the Islamic Republic should create the necessary defense capacities to confront those threats.

Extremist groups such as the Islamic State (IS) and Boko Haram are fighting on behalf of US, the Iranian commander argued.

Iran has studied the conditions and is preparing itself for taking measures on the issue, Pourdastan said, the country's official IRNA news agency reported April 15.

He further said that the Islamic Republic army held recently two military drills in the country's southeastern and southwestern areas in line with this purpose.

Information about holding military drill with proxy war focus shared with the media for the first time on April 12.

At that time Pourdastan said that last month Iranian army ground force held a military drill in the country's southwestern province of Khuzestan, bordering with Iraq.

New weapons, as well as proxy war tactics were tested in the mentioned drill, he said, without explaining why the army has preferred to keep the drill secret.

Pourdastan's new comments unveils that the Islamic Republic has also held another proxy war drill near the Pakistan borders.
