Lieutenant Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami says there is no need for military presence of Iran in Yemen.

He added that people in Yemen do not need Iranian military and battle training, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on April 19.

"Most of Yemeni people are Sunni. We have not only any interest in defending Yemeni people, but also we have endangered our national security for the sake of the dignity of Muslims."

Earlier some reports were published in western media about the arrest of two Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) military officers in Yemen which was denied by Iran.

An international military operation kicked off on March 26 in Yemen against Iran-backed Houthis, with involvement of the armed forces of a number of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia.

The Shiite rebels have taken control of several cities and are assaulting the port of Aden, where Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi had been based before fleeing to Riyadh.

Iran denies accusations that it gives military assistance to the Shiite group.
