"You are not going to follow the issue," Iranian Minister of Justice Mostafa Pourmohammadi told reporters who asked about the issue of dirty money having found a way into Iran 's political scene.

"We have to control the case. Of course dirty money must not have been discussed such as it has in the media and before the public mind," he went on to say, ISNA news agency reported April 28.

Pourmohammadi said that as a result of media coverage, the issue has turned into a pressure tool for pursuing political aims.

One day prior to Pourmohammadi's statements, Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in an open session of the Parliament refrained from presenting his alleged documents on dirty money and its relation to political activities in Iran.

He had said last week that he was in possession of a rich set of documents on how dirty money, especially raised by drug trafficking, had found a way into political campaigns.

Appearing in the parliament on April 27, Fazli apologized for his previous statements.

Some Iranian press such as Shargh daily have called Fazli's apology a "retreat" from his previous position.

Fazli opened up the issue of dirty money and its relation to electoral campaigns about to months ago, one year ahead of the next parliamentary elections in Iran.
