Iran and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding to increase cooperation in the labor sector, IRNA reported.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday in a ceremony in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad by Iran's Minister of Labor, Cooperatives and Social Welfare Ali Rabiei and his Iraqi counterpart Mohammad al-Sudani.

The agreement specifies the areas of cooperation between the two states as well as international collaboration between the ministries.

Based on the deal, Tehran and Baghdad agreed to increase cooperation in international labor conferences as well as organizations such as the Non-Aligned Movement.

Exchanging expertise on professional standards and training, creating jobs, developing business and entrepreneurship and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises are among the articles of the MoU.

Iran and Iraq also agreed to use each other's capabilities in training workforce.

Speaking in a joint press conference, al-Sudani said that the MoU will enable the two neighboring states to increase cooperation on labor issues.

Rabiei also said that boosting cooperation will help safeguard the interests of both states as well as all the countries in the region.

He noted that the MoU will prepare the ground for increased exchange of expertise, students and trainers in vocational education.
