After agreements were made between Iran and Moscow to facilitate visa issue as a giant step forward, Iran is hopeful about wavering visa requirement between the two countries, Ali Chegeni, consular affairs director of Iran's Foreign Ministry said.

The statements came after the two countries signed agreements to facilitate visa issue for tradesmen, students, tourists, and transnational drivers, Fars news agency reported May 23.

The cooperation pact was signed between Iranian and Russia consular director generals Ali Chegani and Yevgeni Ivanov during a ceremony in the Russian capital May 22.

Chegeni hoped that the developments boost mutual trade.

Russia was the 18th leading importer of Iranian non-oil goods in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2015, according to the Iran Customs Administration.

Iran exported $296.5 million of non-oil goods to Russia and imported $667.18 million of non-oil goods from the country.

Commenting on talks between his Russian counterpart and the Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei, Chegeni expressed happiness over the positive trend of growing consular relations between the two countries.

Earlier, Chegeni had led a diplomatic delegation from Iran to Moscow to finalize the agreements.

It is noteworthy that as soon as the cooperation takes effect, the negotiations, the volume of trade exchanges in economic, trade and tourism sectors as well as joint ventures will considerably increase.
