Iran says Saudi court verdict against teen abusers too permissive

Tehran, Iran, June 13

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

Deputy Director of Iran's Hajj Organization Nasser Khadrnejad said a Saudi Arabian court rule against two airport security guards who had abused two Iranian teenagers is too permissive.

"We do not consider the issued verdict enough," he said, ILNA news agency reported June 13.

The Saudi security guards had sexually harassed the Iranian teenagers at Jeddah airport while the teenagers were pilgrims to Mecca, Saudi Arabia back in March.

Saudi news sources said that the court has issued 1,000 lashes and four years in prison for each of the criminals.

However, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister in African and Arab Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian said the news outlets were not reliable and Iran will wait for the official release of the verdict.

Shortly after the crime had been made public, Saudi officials vowed they would give the two men the harshest sentence, capital punishment.
