Iranian Minister of Justice Mostafa Pourmohammadi has accused some domestic media of publishing wrong information about German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel's comments during his visit to Tehran.

It was earlier reported that Gabriel, during his official visit to Tehran last week, has urged the Islamic Republic to improve relations with Israel if it wants to form closer economic ties with Germany.

Iran's Supreme National Security council is pursuing the case to identify those who have published "this lie," Pourmohammadi said, Iran's Fars news agency reported July 26.

He further said that the person, who the statement was attributed to him, has rejected that.

In his meeting with President Hassan Rouhani, the German vice chancellor dismissed the allegations, saying he has not made such comments, Pourmohammadi said.

Gabriel also criticized Iranian media due to publishing wrong information, the Iranian minister said, adding Rouhani has asked the Supreme National Security council to investigate the issue.

Meanwhile Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman, Marzieh Afkham has rejected Gabriel's call for Iran to improve relations with Israel, saying Tehran and Berlin have quite different viewpoints towards some regional issues.

She also said that it is not a recent issue and Iran has made clear its viewpoints over the past 35 years on various occasions.

Gabriel arrived in Tehran on July 19 to discuss Iran-Germany economic ties in post-sanctions period. He met senior Iranian officials including president Rouhani as well as Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian during his three-day visit.
