Iran supports Iraq's fight against Daesh

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tuesday that Iran supports Iraq's fight against Daesh terrorist group that is seeking to destabilize the country and undermine unity among the Iraqi nation, Irna reported.

Speaking during a meeting in Tehran with visiting Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar Hakim, Zarif said that expansion of Tehran-Baghdad ties is high on the agenda of the Iranian government.

Referring to his recent visits to Lebanon and Syria, Zarif said that these visits were made following Iran nuclear deal with the aim of finding settlements to crises in Syria and Lebanon.
He also touched upon his visit to Moscow and said Tehran and Moscow support the sovereignty of Syria and respect the views of the Syrian people.

The chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, for his part, said that Iraqis based on the guidelines of religious leaders have taken major steps in their campaign against Daesh terrorists .

Hakim said that all Iraqi people, the Shia and Sunni Muslims and Christians, have become unified to counter the threats posed by Daesh terrorists.
