Iran and Russia will positively solve the issue of S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems' supplies, Vladimir Sotnikov, the senior fellow at the International Security Center of the World Economy and International Relations Institute and the Near and Middle East Department of the RAS Institute of Oriental Studies told Trend Sept.1.

"It was previously reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin was invited to Tehran, he said. "If Putin's visit somehow takes place, the parties will solve this issue."

"In general, rather fiduciary relations have developed between Russia and Iran, Russia did a lot for historic agreement on Iran's nuclear program be achieved."

During all the years of negotiations, particularly after the conclusion of a preliminary agreement in November 2013, Russian diplomacy has done everything to ensure a phased approach to the signing of this historic deal, according to the scientist.

"Relations between Russia and Iran are confident, and the issue will be finally solved," he said, adding that the details of the issue will be considered at the highest level.

Russia and Iran concluded a contract in 2007 for the supply of S-300 systems.

But, after the adoption of the UN Security Council Resolution 1929, which provided for the imposition of sanctions on Iran, the realization of the contract was suspended.

Iran, in response, filed a claim against Russia at the International Court of Arbitration. Currently, the parties are negotiating on the withdrawal of this lawsuit.

In April this year, Russia's President Vladimir Putin signed a decree removing the ban on the supply of these systems to Iran. In June 2015, Vladimir Kozhin, Putin's aide on military and technical cooperation, said the S-300 system is to be modernized before being delivered to Iran.
