Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian ‫ and Secretary General of the Lebanese Hezbollah group meeting in Beirut discussed the latest developments in Lebanon, IRNA news agency reported September 2.

A day earlier, Abdollahian met United Nations Special Envoy to Lebanon Sigrid Kaag. He also met Staffan de Mistura, the UN Special Envoy for Syria before meeting Kaag in the Lebanese capital.

Abdollahian stated that President Bashar al-Assad should be part of any solution for the future Syria.

The Iranian diplomat is scheduled to travel to Syrian capital Damascus later today.

Tehran often expresses support for the Hezbollah as well as the government of Assad.

Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan reiterated on Sept. 1 that Iran would continue supporting "resistance movements such as Hezbollah and Palestinian Hamas and Islamic Jihad groups".

"We have often declared publicly that we will not stop material or spiritual support for Hezbollah or any other resistance organizations that are fighting the U.S. and Israel," he asserted.
