The primary and secondary US sanctions against Iran will be halted for eight years, after which the US president is required to introduce a bill to the Congress for their removal Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

These were words spoken by Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, MP and member of the Iranian Parliament's Special Commission on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), who was briefing reporters on a session of the commission with Zarif, Mehr news agency reported Sept. 13.

The Iranian Parliament is also required to consider the Additional Protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty he quoted the foreign minister as having said.

Zarif said that the day the JCPOA is implemented, financial, monetary, and economic sanctions imposed by the European Union will be removed completely, Hosseini reported.

According to the MP, Zarif also said that UN resolutions would also be lifted the very day the JCPOA is implemented.

Iran and the group P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) struck the JCPOA on July 14. The deal limits Iran 's nuclear program in return for lifting sanctions on the country.
