US Senate Democrats have blocked a resolution against Iran agreement for a second time, Press TV reported.
As was expected, the Republicans failed once again Tuesday to gain the 60 votes needed for the resolution of disapproval.
The Democrats supported President Barack Obama's engagement in Iran talks for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to pass through.
This, however, did not stop Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who had scheduled the second vote, to go for a third one on Thursday.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) had said ahead of the second vote that it would be "dumb" for the lawmakers to change their vote.
The Republican leader, however, said that the "debate will continue."
"A strong, bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives voted to reject the deal. A strong, bipartisan majority of the Senate would vote to reject the deal too," McConnell said. "If only Democrat senators would stop blocking the American people from even having a final vote on one of the most consequential foreign policy issues of our age."
The GOP's campaign against the nuclear agreement has been backed by the Israeli lobby in the United States, which has spent large amounts of money to spread propaganda against any deal with Tehran.
Democratic Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois said a third vote on the Vienna accord, achieved by Iran and the global powers in mid-July, is futile.
"We had this vote last week," Durbin said. "I don't know why we're doing a replay of this."
The Democratic minority leader had offered to allow the Senate to go directly to a vote on final passage, but only if McConnell agreed to a 60-vote threshold for passage.
Tehran and the P5+1 - the United States, Britain, Russia, China, France, and Germany - finalized the JCPOA after months of tough negotiations.
Under the JCPOA, limits will be put on Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.
