Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 16

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Russia is ready to help Iran upgrade its operating centrifuges for producing stable isotopes, director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said.

Salehi made the remarks after meeting with Sergei Kiriyenko, director of Russia's state nuclear company Rosatom, on the sidelines of the 59th Annual Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna, Iran's Fars news agency reported Sept. 16.

The two sides discussed Russia's responsibilities within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

"Our relations with Russia are very special, particularly in this sensitive era. Russia, as one of the P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) members supported the Iran deal through its constructive proposals," Salehi said.

Iran hopes Russia will assist in financing a project for the construction of two new power units at the Bushehr nuclear power plant, Salehi added.

In November 2014, Russia and Iran signed in Moscow a package of agreements on the construction of eight nuclear power units in Iran, including a contract for the construction of the Bushehr's second stage that provided for the building of two nuclear units with a possible expansion to four units.
