The EU in line with the United States seeks to create social polarization in Iran, Major General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said.

He made the remarks while addressing the 21st annual gathering of IRGC commanders in the Iranian capital city of Tehran Sept. 16 the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

"Creating social polarization in the country, increasing demands on public opinion and sweeping the issue of decades-old conflict with America and the West are the purposes of the broad visits of the Europeans to Iran -which is done in coordination with the US."

It should be noted that following the Iran-P5+1 nuclear deal various delegations from the EU countries have made visits to Iran, seeking grounds for resuming the economic ties with Tehran in the post-sanctions period.

Soleimani further argued that the US seeks to weaken and control the Islamic Republic through movements within the geographical areas where the Islamic Republic maintains its influence.

The United States wants to regain its power in the Middle East, and this may be the reason behind Washington's insistence on a deal with Iran over its nuclear program, the Iranian commander added.

After several months of talks, on July 14, Iran and the P5+1 (US, Russia, China, France, UK, and Germany) announced a final accord, curbing Iran 's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of most international sanctions.

While Iran 's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who has the last word in the country has not announced any clear stance on the deal, some conservative politicians in the Islamic Republic claim that Khamenei is against the agreement.
