Hossein Amir Abdollahian Iranian deputy foreign minister for Arab and African Affairs is scheduled to visit Moscow Sept. 21 to discuss Syria crisis with Russian officials.

The minister will inform Russian officials about the updated proposal of the Islamic Republic for ending the ongoing civil war in Syria, Iran 's ISNA news agency reported Sept. 18.

Amir Abdollahian will meet with Russian deputy foreign minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, who also serves as the Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa.

Earlier in a telephone conversation Amir Abdollahian discussed the latest developments in Syria with his Russian counterpart.

Tehran and Moscow share the same stance towards Syria, supporting the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad.

Iran has already presented its plan to the Syrian government, and according to Amir Abdollahian Assad has welcomed Iran 's "constructive ideas" and offered certain constructive suggestions about it.

The Iranian diplomat also said that Tehran would hold further talks with the Syrian foreign ministry team on the plan's details. He explained that the plan is focused on people's role, prevention of a power vacuum in Syria, fight against terrorism, aid delivery to the displaced, and dispatch of humanitarian aid to Syrian people.

The Islamic Republic views the Syrian regime as its main strategic ally in the region and as part of an "axis of resistance" against Israel.

The Syrian opposition claims that Iranian military forces are fighting against them, while Iran dismisses the claims, saying that Iran only has advisors in Syria, to transfer its military experience to the Syrian army.

During the conflict in Syria, which began in March 2011, more than 150,000 people have been killed in the country and over 4.2 million have become refugees in Syrian territory and two million have fled to neighboring countries.
