Twelve Iranian MPs have written a letter to Minister of Intelligence Mahmoud Alavi and Minister of Culture Ali Jannati warning of "the infiltration of hundreds of people from Western espionage services" in Iranian media.

The MPs requested the ministers to take strong action against the threat that has lodged in "newspapers and chain media", Fars news agency reported Sept. 21.

"A destructive band of hundreds of media people inside the country are linked to Western espionage services and are in contact with countries such as Norway, the Netherlands, and the UK . Their communication hubs abroad are key people of the 2009 sedition as well as refugees and asylum-seekers in Western countries," the letter reads.

The 2009 sedition is a name given by the Iranian government to the disturbances that followed that year's presidential elections. The Islamic Republic accused Western agents of having caused the disturbances with the aim to change the government.

The lawmakers requested the officials to form lawsuits against the said people and refer their cases to the judiciary.
