Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Sunday that savage crimes committed by terrorists have nothing to do with Islam, IRNA reported.

'The savage crimes of terrorist movements in beheading and burning human beings alive are sign of their full alienation of Islam. Islam is the religion of fraternity, passion and benevolence and the crimes have nothing to do with Islam,' Supreme Leader told Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the only way of campaign against terrorist movements is allowing the public to get engaged in Islamic activities and strengthening intellectual and rational movements.

'The only way to confront terrorist movements and foil their infiltration is allowing people to get engaged in the right Islamic activities and promoting the moderate and rational Islamic intellectual moves,' he added.

Referring to close and friendly relations between Iran and Turkmenistan and the abundant capacities available for promotion of mutual cooperation and confronting war mongering in the region, Ayatollah Khamenei said Iranian and Turkmen nations are neighbors who are like relatives.

'Effective and practical steps need to be taken for serious implementation of the already reached agreements,' added the Supreme Leader.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said security, welfare and progress of the neighbors and Muslim countries will be to the benefit of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

'Borders of Iran and Turkmenistan are borders of peace and calm, bringing about tranquility for both sides. Iran is a corridor for access to the Persian Gulf and free waters and serves as a valuable opportunity for Turkmenistan,' said Supreme Leader, adding that security of Iran and Turkmenistan is necessary under present tumultuous regional condition, so growing mutual cooperation to guarantee continued security is a must.

Berdymuhamedov said Iran and Turkmenistan have always had good and historical relations, sympathizing with each other under tragic and happy conditions. 'Your remarks that Iran and Turkmenistan are not only two neighbors but also two relatives will encourage the government and nation of Turkmenistan.'

He recalled guidelines of the Supreme Leader in his meetings in the past and said, 'Your speech, as a wise leader and intellectual are of high value for us and acting on your recommendations will have very good results.'

Also referring to abundant capacities for expansion of relations, especially in the gas, transportation and road building sectors, the Turkmen president said well commissioning of Iran-Turkmenistan joint development and economic projects will be to the benefit of the entire region.

Touching on historical background and importance of the Silk Road, he said some countries are eager to be linked to the sea through Iranian and Turkmen territories.
Berdymuhamedov also pointed to crimes of Daesh terrorist group and said Daesh and the like groups are not well informed of Islam and unfortunately, they are supported by certain governments.
