Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has left Tehran for Islamabad, Pakistan's capital to attend a ministerial level event on Afghanistan.

According to the "Heart of Asia" website, the event entitled Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process is a process founded in 2011 to provide a new agenda for regional cooperation in the 'Heart of Asia' by placing Afghanistan at its center and engaging the 'Heart of Asia' countries in sincere and result oriented cooperation for peaceful and stable Afghanistan, as well as a secure and prosperous region as a whole.

According to IRNA news agency an expert level meeting will be held later today and on 9 December its ministerial session will be held in which Afghan president Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend.

Earlier on December 3, Qazi Khalilullah, Foreign Office Spokesman of Pakistan said that so far the foreign ministers of China, Tajikistan and Afghanistan had confirmed that they would attend the event.
