Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered the country's government to act as a headquarters for economic defense.
"To be commanded by the government..., the central economic resistance headquarters should draw the cooperation of all organizations and thoroughly monitor the performances of all sectors," he told a number of officials from the three branches and other organizations, his official website reported April 6.
"The monitoring should serve to empower organizations that work alongside resistance economy, bring to the right track those which are neutral to it, and stop those which work against it," the Leader stressed.
Resistance economy is a security-minded notion introduced by Ayatollah Khamenei, stressing minimum reliance on foreign resources in order to preclude susceptibility.
"I will sincerely support any action in the government, parliament, and judiciary that serves people's interests," he underlined.
The Supreme Leader seemed to make the remark in reference to an earlier statement on March 20 when he had warned against overplaying Iran's nuclear deal with world powers which was made under his own supervision.
There he had lashed out at the United States for "working day and night" to prevent Iran from enjoying the benefits of the deal.
"The United States cannot be trusted. Some other Western countries are the same, therefore we should rely on our own capabilities," he stressed.
Iranian officials with any taste and worldview should work toward the fundamental revolutionary goals, the Supreme Leader emphasized.
