Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the country should pay special attention to the education of the youth as a way to defeat the global hegemonic system.

"In educating future generation we are not in the field by our own, but face a rival called the international hegemonic system," he told hundreds of visitors from the Ministry of Education in a meeting marking teachers' day in Iran, the leader's official website reported May 2.

"The US, Zionist capitalists, and some governments are the quintessence's of the international hegemony. They want the future generations of countries to adopt their way of seeing global affairs."

Propagating local culture and language is crucial to saving youth, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

"It is a pity that in our country there is no special program to fight the propagation of foreign language and culture and we have left the stage open for foreign culture to thrive," he said.

Khamenei also said that there are numerous problems with consumption patterns in the Iranian society. "The consumption of foreign-made and smuggled goods and luxury commodities worth hundreds of thousands are examples of a wrong consumption pattern in the country which should be remedied. One way to do so is to create the culture among the youth."

Stressing national power as the necessary factor to fight the hegemonic system, Khamenei said that power is not tantamount to weapons, but science, faith, national character, resistance, and revolutionary personality are all the things that create power.
