Iran's Foreign Ministry has dismissed the reports on a meeting between Iranian officials and a Saudi mediator in Tehran.

The Lebanese TV channel Almayadeen earlier reported that Saudi Arabia sent a mediator to Iran, suggesting that Tehran hopes to normalize its ties with Riyadh.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has said the reports suggesting that Saudi Arabia sent a mediator to Iran to discuss resolving the Yemeni crisis are false, the Fars news agency reported June 2.

According to the report, Morocco's envoy in Tehran met Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on June 1 to discuss the Syrian and Yemeni crises, as well as the regional developments.

The ties between Riyadh and Tehran worsened after execution of the prominent Shia cleric, Nimr al-Nimr by the Saudis on Jan. 2.

Following the execution, angry Iranian protesters stormed Saudi embassy in Tehran and consulate in Mashhad.

Right after the attacks on its diplomatic missions, the Saudi Arabia said it severed ties with Iran.
