By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

The United States has repeatedly asked Iran to talk on regional issues, Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said.

The frequent requests of the US for negotiating with the Islamic Republic over sensitive regional developments indicates that Washington is concerned about the failure of its plans, Shamkhani said, Mehr news agency reported.

He further said that the United States’ open and covert support for governments and groups that are boosting terrorism is the major obstacle ahead of US-Iran negotiation on regional issues.

Iran cannot trust the US because the two parties’ interests contradict each other and Washington has not fulfilled its commitments towards Tehran in the past, he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Shamkhani said that Tehran will not accept any restrictions on its nuclear program, excluding the decree of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, once the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA aka nuclear deal) expired in 10 years.

Khamenei has declared a fatwa (religious decree), which bans pursuit and possession of nuclear weapons.
